In these trying times, there is one thing keeping us sane. And that thing is entertainment. Now more than ever, it is crucial to have a dependable free movie and TV streaming site at your disposal. With the Coronavirus pandemic keeping everybody locked down in quarantine and socially distanced, boredom can strike in ways that we never knew were possible before.
There is no going to the pub with your friends, no leaving the house for classes or dinner, for many, there is no going out at all. And doing puzzles, reading, picking up a new hobby like playing the guitar or learning how to draw all can only take you so far. Eventually, you’re going to find yourself needing something a little more stimulating. This is why, for the millions of us who are stuck inside for the foreseeable future, free streaming sites have never been more useful.
But there are just so many out there on the web to choose from … How on earth are you supposed to know which streaming services are worth your time, which ones will immediately help you find the show or movie you are craving, and which ones are complete trash? Free streaming sites, of course, are not the only ones for us to consider either. For those of us who can afford the extra bill each month, there are plenty of premium streaming services, many of which, I’m sure, you are already familiar with.
That’s right, I’m talking about the big ones: Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, HBO, etc. But we can’t all justify dropping any extra money on additional services each month, even if it is only $10 or so. Millions of people around the world have, after all, lost their jobs due to this pandemic. And why spend any extra money, especially if you are in a financial pinch if you don’t have to?
Why drop anywhere between $10 and $100 a month on streaming services when there are literally hundreds available that allow you to stream almost anything, completely free of charge? Especially when, in some cases, if you find the best free movie and TV streaming site, any and everything that is available on those premium services are also available for free?
Well, the most commonly cited reason that people don’t think to entertain the idea of free movie streaming sites comes from a concern for their legitimacy, as well as the safety of their computers and data. Free streaming sites, in other words, do not tend to have to best reputations. People fear to get viruses, trojans or having their sensitive data be put at risk because, well, let’s face it, there have been a few malicious “free streaming sites” that have done just that in the past.
However, this is entirely a case of a few bad apples spoiling the bunch. There are, however, plenty of 100% safe, reliable, and helpful free movie streaming sites out there. The trick is knowing how to tell the difference. And the best way to immediately be able to discern a good free streaming site from a toxic one is to, well, choose a free movie streaming site from my list. I would never knowingly link to a site that contains viruses or other potentially harmful malware of any kind. I write these reviews specifically to weed out the bad streaming sites so that you don’t have to.
But if you are still nervous about these free streaming sites, there are other preventative measures that you can take to further ensure your safety in browsing free content online – especially if you want to go rogue and find a site that is not reviewed on StreamingSites.com. You will be virtually impenetrable if you get yourself a solid line of defense for your computer and online activity, no matter what you plan to do on the web.
I advise everyone that I speak to about this, if they are worried, to firstly get themselves a good VPN. This will make you completely anonymous on the internet – meaning that trojans cannot get to you and nobody – not your government, your Internet Service Provider, or a hacker – will be able to see what you are doing on your computer via an internet connection.
Secondly, it is always wise to protect yourself with dependable antivirus software. That way, just in case anything does happen to slip through the cracks, you will be ready to zap it before it can cause any harm. Pair these two things with an adblocker addon to your favorite web browser and, voila, you are basically bulletproof. Not even the worst free streaming sites will be able to touch you. If you are interested in learning more about online privacy and other useful protective apps and programs, head on over to StreamingSite’s section on Useful Software and VPNs to find the best line of defense for your needs.
Once you do find a free movie streaming site that you like, though, how do you discern if it is the best one? Well, there are a few factors to take into account. The first one that comes to mind, however (and arguably the most important) is how many titles the site offers. You want variety from a free movie streaming site. You don’t want to not be able to find the movie you are looking for, of course. There is a great deal of variance when it comes to free streaming sites – some sites have just about every movie and TV show you can think of, whereas others only have the most popular titles. You want the site that has everything you are looking for.
And on that note, let’s take a look at everything that one of the most popular free movie streaming sites on the web has to offer: HD Rezka.
HD Rezka is a Russian site. But don’t worry, if you don’t speak Russian, as soon as you land on the home page, the site will let you select between Russian and English, and it will automatically translate the page to your preference. Once you select your language, you’ll notice a display that may be a little overwhelming at first. The site’s banner, for instance, is an ad of some sort – spin the wheel game, which is all in Russian, so I have no idea what it promises in terms of winnings. I ignored it, though, and went straight to the content.
Scroll down and you’ll find a list of new titles, most popular, and hottest TV series. From there, it is just a matter of browsing until you find something that catches your eye. Or, of course, you can always search for a film or TV show in the search bar at the top of the page.
The site design isn’t horrible. It is, however, a little more cluttered than I tend to prefer, but, hey, to each his own, right?
Although the majority of the films and shows that are promoted on the site’s home page, HD Rezka offers a wide variety of titles from all over the world. This is an area where many free movie and TV show streaming sites often falter, in not providing a versatile and diverse selection of films and shows. Oftentimes, the offerings will either be entirely Western or entirely Eastern. HD Rezka, on the other hand, has a vast list of movies and shows from a diverse range of countries and cultures – Indie and big-budget titles alike. And what’s best, the majority of the content found here is, as the site’s title promises, available to stream in HD.
Mobile and Desktop Experience
Although I did not encounter any problems playing any movies or shows on my laptop, my mobile experience was slightly different. Being located in the US, it appears as if many titles were not available to me on my phone for some reason. I should note, though, that at the time of this review, the site mentions that it is going through the large-scale data recovery, so that could explain it. That being said, the site appears almost identically on a smartphone as it does on the laptop, so, it at least appears optimized and usable on mobile devices as well.
Suggestions that I have for HD Rezka
HD Rezka has a lot of ads. And when I say a lot, I mean a lot. There are, if you don’t have an ad blocker, ads everywhere on this site – on each page, in the margins, underneath videos, above videos, ads that play before content buffers. The site is unabashedly funded by ads. I would suggest that HD Rezka find a different way to monetize their content so that the user experience wouldn’t be sacrificed. I suggest offering a premium version of the site, which could make it ad-free. I also suggest an app. It is rare for a free movie streaming site to have an app, but I think that a site as good as this one deserves to have one.
