Show 27+ sites like Sony Crackle:
Plenty of legit streaming services work towards enhancing the mobile experience. That’s the reason why they roll out apps for Android and iOS users. If you’re an ardent streamer, you’d know that website streaming can never reach the potential of an APK or an official app when it comes to mobile streaming. That’s because the developers design the interface and gear the device to work seamlessly on your mobile device. When it comes to apps, there’s one called Crackle that I’m sure you might have heard of.
What is Crackle?
Crackle by Sony is among the very few legit apps that allow you to stream content for free. Once you download the app, you can watch movies, television shows, and other content available on the platform. Since it’s a free-to-use app without any premium fee, it relies on ads. There are commercials before most of the videos, but given that you can access all the content without spending a dime is worth the pain.
If you’re accustomed to using Netflix or HBO Go on your mobile device, you’d see familiarity in Crackle’s user interface. The simple design, coupled with intuitive menus, make browsing and streaming merrier. The moment you enter the app, you’ll land on the home screen, which has the featured content. There are several navigation buttons which help you browse categories such as Movies, Shows, and Watch list. The thumbnail view is completely inspired by the website. However, you do have the option to switch to a basic list view.
Crackle is free, and that’s the reason why you shouldn’t expect the top shows and movies. Sure, it’s filled with quality content but doesn’t download the app expecting the trending blockbusters because you won’t get it. Having said that, you can still find a wide range of legendary programs such as ‘Seinfeld,’ ‘Sanford and Son’, and ‘The Three Stooges.’ Other than these programs, you can find the latest flicks such as ‘The Walking Dead,’ ‘Homeland,’ and ‘Dexter.’
What should you expect from the Crackle App?
Crackle App has a massive content library. As shared above, you can enjoy some top shows on the platform. These movies and shows aren’t restricted to just classic content. The only problem I have with the app is that you can’t binge-watch the latest shows. There are only a few episodes from each season available on the platform. Thus, it’s not extensive and complete as you’d think. And that, in my opinion, is a major drawback.
Premium design need not always come at a cost. Sony’s Crackle is a perfect specimen that showcases that even free apps have the ability to provide excellent streaming service without charging the customers. The dark-design, along with well-laid-out menus and navigation buttons, help users to browse seamlessly. The interface is spotless, and you’d love streaming on this platform.
The streaming service on Crackle is top-notch. It is, in fact, one of the best that a free legit app has to offer. Any streaming service without a stable stream is no good. Thankfully, Crackle ticks all the right boxes in this regard. The only shortfall is that you can’t watch the majority of the content in HD resolution. Thus, you’ve to largely rely on the SD quality i.e., 720p. That’s a slightly disappointing factor as even APKs nowadays manage to help you scale up to 1080p.
Crackle is home to a star-studded lineup in regard to movies and TV shows. The on-demand content prowess of this platform is staggering. Its impressive library features recognizable programming, including TV series and certain movies. The content on the platform is always updated based on the agreement with content producers. Stick around, because we’ll be sharing Crackle’s content line-up with you.
Crackle App Information
Crackle is updated on a regular basis. Every three months, you’ll find the content as well as the interface is updated. If you’re an Android user, you can stream on the App if you have Android KitKat and above. It’s cool to see an app support an OS that’s seven years old. Its support, streaming quality, and interface have led to over 10 million installations from the app store.
How to access Crackle?
To access Crackle, you need to download the app for your mobile device. It’s available on both Android and iOS platforms. In order to stream the content, you need to follow the instructions below.
Create a Crackle Account
While you can watch the majority of the content without signing-up on the platform, you’ll miss out on certain key features. By signing up for the service, you get to access two key features, such as ‘Watch Later’ and ‘Continue Watching.’ While Watch Later might be an ordinary feature, ‘Continue Watching’ is definitely something from the premium vault. Using this feature allows you to stream content from where you left off.
The Crackle app boasts a clean and sleek design. The user-interface is quite simple and mostly has a no-nonsense approach. You click on a title, you’ll have to watch a short advertisement and then you can start streaming on the platform.
There is plenty of cool information on the website, such as synopsis, ratings, cast details. You can read the content before you start to stream, so to understand whether you’re in the mood to watch the content or not.
Other than that, you can execute a custom search function if you’re looking for a specific title on the app. The content is divided nicely into certain sections highlighting different genre-based channels such as ‘Spotlight,’ ‘Academy,’ and ‘Comedy,’ and ‘Thriller.’
The UI/UX on Crackle is tailor-made as per the platform. There’s quite a difference between what you see on desktop as compared to the mobile device. On a desktop, you’re largely looking at a TV-like menu where the content is arranged in alphabetical order. On the app, however, the layout is much more compact.
There are thousands of movies, and TV shows that you can access on this platform. Among the various types of content, Popular On-Demand Movies, On-Demand Shows, and Originals are some of my favorite categories.
You can find classic titles such as ‘A Few Good Men,’ starring Jack Nicholson and Tom Cruise. Other than that, you’ll find Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferell’s ‘The Other Guys.’ Some popular on-demand content that you can find on the platform includes ‘Seven Years in Tibet,’ ‘3:10 to Yuma’, ‘Friday the 13th series’, ‘Rules of Engagement,’ ‘The Longest Yard,’ ‘Zodiac,’ ‘The Karate Kid Series,’ and ‘Zero Dark Thirty.’
While the movie lineup on the app is impressive, I can’t say the same for TV shows. Why? Because it lacks continuity and is not quite extensive. Nonetheless, you can still watch some of the coolest and the most popular shows such as ‘Seinfeld,’ ‘Sanford,’ ‘Bewitched,’ ‘All in the Family,’ ‘The Ellen Show,’ ‘Charlie’s Angels,’ ‘Marvel Animated Series,’ ‘T.J. Hooker’, ‘Just Shoot Me!’, and ‘The Dana Carvey Show.’
If you want to use Crackle for entertaining your children, Crackle isn’t the best option out there. Why? Because it lacks content depth. It only has a handful of kid-friendly series, but the volume certainly isn’t enough to keep your kids entertained for long. Some Popular Kids Content on the app includes ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,’ ‘Muppets in Space,’ ‘Stuart Little,’ ‘Jack and the Beanstalk,’ and ‘The Smurfs.’
There’s no denying that every major studio wants the whole pie to them. And that’s why they are heavily investing in original content. While Netflix and Prime Video are leaps and bounds ahead of Crackle on this one, Crackle does have a few quality originals under their belt. These include 16 original TV shows and 11 original films. Among these titles, some of the most recognizable titles are ‘SuperMansion,’ ‘Ski Master Academy,’ ‘The Art of More,’ and ‘Throwaways.’
Crackle being a free app, doesn’t have the best content library. Nonetheless, it makes up for the lack of content by providing an amazing, easy-to-use platform. I streamed Crackle on Google Pixel 4, and I enjoyed streaming on the device. The streams were smooth, and there were no major discrepancies. Having said that, you do need to bear with pre-rolled commercials. For every 30 minutes of streaming, you’d be watching around 8-10 minutes of ads, which in my opinion, is quite annoying.
Suggestions I have for Crackle
Crackle, as a platform, is in the middle of nowhere. While it’s free, it doesn’t have enough content or amazing streaming capabilities. On the other hand, the platform is bombarded with ads that are quite annoying for any user.
Don’t consider Crackle to be your cord-cutting alternative. This is just a cool little addition to your premium streaming apps that can allow you to entertain yourself when your entertainment sources are limited.
