Free Streaming Apps - Watch Media on Android & iOs Apps
What are free streaming apps all about, anyway?
Anyone who has ever been in a situation where they do not have a premium streaming service membership did not have the money to afford to get one and wanted to be able to watch great content on their mobile devices has probably considered looking into free streaming apps at one point or another. What are they, you ask? Well, free streaming apps are precisely what they sound like … they are apps for your smartphone or tablet that let you stream content for free!
With so many different options available for us nowadays to stream movies and TV shows, it can be very difficult to figure out which sites, programs, and apps are right for you. Don’t get me wrong, it is a beautiful problem to have – to be burdened by an overabundance of options when it comes to watching all the best media content in whatever way we prefer, whenever we want. But it can still be a difficult decision, nonetheless … to try and choose the right streaming setup that speaks to both your needs (and, of course, your bank account’s flexibility).
Not many people even know about the wealth of free premium grade streaming apps that are out there. They often get lost in the mix, overshadowed by the big players in the streaming space – Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, etc. – but there are some sources for free streaming that are just as good as (and in some cases, you could make the argument that a few might even be better than) the leading streaming site giants.
Free streaming apps are the streaming equivalent to freedom. In every sense of the word. They are liberating. They do not tie you down to a television or a computer, they are 100% free to stream content to your heart’s content, and they open up your range of possibilities when it comes to what titles are available to you.
As some of you may already know well, the selection of movies and shows available on the major streaming services can be rather limiting. Even if you have memberships to all of them, chances are you will still be left without a way to stream a certain movie or TV show every once in a while. Well, add a few of these free streaming apps into the mix and you suddenly have hundreds of new titles in your digital library. Freedom of choice.
Of course, you don’t need to use these free streaming services in their app form. They are all also available as desktop websites. And many of them are compatible with Roku and smart TVs. But it is in their app forms that they become the most convenient, the most liberating. And that is why I think it is worth listing them as their own individual category. The power behind some of these free streaming apps is unbelievable and deserves to be given a platform.
Why you might be wondering, would you want to use a free streaming app over, say, just visiting a solid free streaming site on your phone or tablet’s internet browser? There are, as you probably already know, tons of free streaming sites that provide access to nearly every movie and TV show in existence. Why not just use one of those on your phone?
Well, the short answer to that question is “quality.” Free streaming apps offer an unrivaled level of performance, both in design and user-friendliness. There are no free movie and TV streaming sites out there that I know of that even come close to providing the premium level experience that many of the best free streaming apps provide. Sometimes you have to take quality over quantity.
What are the best free apps for streaming?
As is the case with any sort of app, this is largely subjective. I can give you my opinion, of course, and you might disagree with me. And that’s fine. The key, anyway, when it comes to discerning what the best free streaming apps are is figuring out what you are looking for in a free streaming app, to begin with. Do you prefer a certain genre of film? Do you tend to watch series more than you watch movies? What kind of features is must-haves for you when it comes to free streaming on your phone or tablet? Answering these questions for yourself will be the most effective way for you to figure out which free streaming app is the best … for you.
But, since you asked, I will run you through a few of my personal favorite free streaming apps. First of all, I want to draw your attention to the app, Tubi. I absolutely love this app. I use it nearly every day. It offers the perfect blend, if you ask me, of quality, quantity, and incredible site design and user-friendliness. It ticks all the boxes … impeccable user experience, a robust library of titles, and some convenient user features. You really cannot go wrong with Tubi. Based on the Apple App Store average rating of this app, too, it would appear as if I am not alone in my assessment. Tubi has a rating of 4.7 stars – which is almost virtually unheard of when it comes to movie and TV streaming apps in general, let alone a free one.
Pair Tubi with Popcorn Flix and you should be off to a great start. Popcorn Flix is also exquisitely designed and carries many titles. The type of content, too, I have found is a nice companion to Tubi. In other words, what Tubi doesn’t have, Popcorn Flix does (within reason, of course). Tubi seems to skew more towards fun, comedic content, whereas Popcorn Flix is drama and thriller heavy. So, I volley between these two apps often, depending on my mood.
On what devices can I enjoy these free streaming apps?
As I have already said, many of these apps are available on Roku, Firestick, and/or smart TVs. But as far as mobile devices are concerned, free streaming apps are best enjoyed on any smartphone or tablet. A good free streaming app will be available on both iOS and Android devices (some may even work on Blackberry). Enjoy your free streaming apps from the comfort of your couch or while on the go. Again, free streaming apps means freedom to stream whatever, wherever, whenever.
What kind of content can I stream?
Well, that depends entirely on the app in question! As there are several really great free streaming apps out there, you should be more than okay if you pair a few of your favorites together, in terms of how much content you will be able to watch for free. But, to put it generally, free streaming apps offer popular and indie movies, TV shows, cartoons, and, in some cases, anime. Browsing through my reviews will help you get a better idea of which apps cater to what kind of content.
Is it really free to stream on these apps?
Yep! It really is free. No joke. No fine print. Just free streaming. Of course, the majority of these apps do tend to rely pretty heavily on ads. But, hey, they have to support themselves somehow, right? Also, the better free streaming apps also offer premium versions if you ever do decide you can afford to add a streaming payment to your monthly stack of bills. Premium versions of these apps usually get rid of the ads, offer higher-quality streams, and sometimes allow you to view exclusive content. So, it is definitely something worth considering. Oh, and the monthly fee for the premium versions of these apps tends to be considerably cheaper than Netflix, Amazon Prime, or Hulu – just saying!
Can you get a virus from free streaming apps?
Absolutely not! At least not the free streaming apps that I link to. If I even list an app or a site, even if I don’t love a particular one, you can rest assured that I have vetted it and it is safe. I would never even link to anything potentially malicious. So, no worries. Almost all of these apps are in cahoots with major production studios, too, as an added level of comfort – they aren’t just developed by some copyright pirates in a Swedish basement or something – these are very professional endeavors!
