Take a look at how far the world of entertainment and media has come over the last 20 years … how about even just the last decade? Everything has changed. It’s a whole new game now. No longer do we have to just wait around, twiddling our thumbs, for a new episode of our favorite show to go live. No longer is going to the cinema the only way that we are able to watch the latest box office smash the day that it drops. No longer do cable networks and film studios have full control over how we consume media. Today, we watch what we want to watch when, where, and however we please. What a beautiful time it is to be alive!
I don’t know about you, but I certainly do not miss having to wait around for each new episode of my favorite show to air. Sure, this is still sometimes the way that it goes down, at least as far as the series that are currently broadcasting and still doing so under the traditional cable model. However, the silver lining to this is the fact that, in the meantime, we have so many amazing series and movies to tide us over until that latest episode finally is made available. The Netflix model of consuming content has truly put the viewer in the power position for a change.
That is not the only difference to come out of the last 10 years or so, though. Along with being able to have more control over the way we watch content, there are also so many more places where we can watch it as well. Maybe you’re old enough to recall the days of the DVD (or the days of the VHS, even). Back in the day, you often had no choice but to sit down in front of your TV, pop in a movie, and watch it from your couch. That was pretty much the only option. Nowadays, however, thanks to the advent of premium streaming apps and sites, you can take your favorite movies and shows with you anywhere you go.
Just tap open your favorite premium streaming app on your mobile device and, like magic, as long as you have an internet connection, the TV has become irrelevant. If you happen to have a lengthy and unbearable commute to work, not anymore … just throw on an episode of a captivating show to brighten up your morning.
Traveling soon? Have to take a plane? No problem … use that 10-hour flight as an opportunity to catch up on a show you fell behind with or to finally watch that Oscar-nominated movie you’ve been putting off for months. We all have our favorite times to watch movies and shows on the go. Mine happens to be while I am working out. There is nothing better than throwing on a movie to forget about the physical demands of running on the treadmill. Maybe you prefer to use a streaming app while you are at work (don’t worry, your secret’s safe with me). Whatever the case may be, there is no denying how much better premium streaming apps have made our lives.
Which leads us to the ultimate question, then, which premium streaming app will be the perfect companion to your on-the-go lifestyle? Well, as much as the performance of the app itself must be taken into account, perhaps the most important question to ask yourself is the following: which premium streaming service has the most content that you know you will enjoy? Maybe you can’t get enough of Netflix’s original content … if so, the Netflix app is probably a safe bet. Perhaps you are more of a Hulu fan … well, you get the picture. Remember, for the majority of these premium streaming apps, you are going to have to subscribe to whatever streaming service they enable you to use. So, that’s the first thing you’ll have to figure out.
If you already know ahead of time, however, that you do most of your streaming from a mobile device, maybe the design and performance of the app itself is, in fact, the most important thing for you to consider. Either way, nobody wants a streaming service whose app is shoddily built, unreliable, or hard to use. As far as I’m concerned, when it comes to a premium streaming service, offering a top-notch app should be a requirement. It should be automatically factored into whatever monthly fee I am paying per month.
Taking all of this into account, let’s check out the premium streaming app for one of the best-known networks of all time: Starz. Where does the Starz streaming service and, more importantly, the Starz app fall on the spectrum of premium streaming apps? What does Starz have to offer the busy streamer on the go? Let’s dive in and take a look, shall we?
The Starz app might be one of the best on the market in terms of design. I love the way it looks. It is sleek, it is professional, it is user-friendly, it is intuitive, and it is completely streamlined, from top to bottom. The menus are all logical, interactive, and intuitive – never leaving you to do any guesswork as to what command will do what or trying to figure out how to get to the episodes list of your favorite shows. Everything is precisely where you’d expect it to be on the Starz app, everything works perfectly like you’d think it would.
This is one of the only premium streaming apps that I have seen that does a nearly perfect job of mirroring the desktop or TV experience of the streaming service, while also optimizing the controls and menus for a smartphone or tablet. With the Starz app, you have full control over playback, too, which is surprisingly more than most premium streaming apps can say for themselves. Fast-forward or rewind to any spot in a given episode or movie, skip to the next or previous episode of a series with ease.
This might just be the most logically designed premium streaming app on the market today. The public seems to really be digging it, too, seeing as the Starz app has one of the highest ratings of any premium streaming app on the Apple App Store. It has an overall average rating of 4.8 stars (out of 5), from over 212,000 individual reviews. The numbers really speak for themselves here.
The Starz App offers a blend of all of Starz original content, as well as some of the hottest syndicated films available. You’ll have access to your favorite Starz shows, such as Power, American Gods, Outlander, Party Down, The White Queen, and The Spanish Princess (to name a few). You’ll also have access to some of the world’s biggest box office smashes, like Venom, Toy Story 3, Scarface, and The Equalizer. Plus, Starz adds new titles every single week, whether they are the latest episodes from their series, new movies, or both.
You get access to all of this content, by the way, in full HD streaming on your smartphone or tablet.
Pricing and Plans
In order to become a Starz subscription member, you will have to pay $8.99 a month … a totally reasonable price, if you ask me, for anyone who loves Starz’ content. Especially when you take into account that it comes with one of the best streaming apps on the market. Starz also has a promotion running at the moment that allows you to sign up for Starz at a discounted rate of just $5 a month for the first 3 months. So, there is no better time to sign up for Starz than right now.
Suggestions that I have for the Starz App
Honestly, I don’t really have any. This is one of those rare cases where pretty much every box that needs to be ticked is ticked. I guess, though, if I were nitpicking, I would like to see a wider selection of movies and shows available. The selection is somewhat limited to Starz originals and a few Hollywood flicks. I would suggest that Starz get some more syndicated content if they expect to see more people converting to Starz subscribers in this highly competitive streaming world that we live in.
