If you’re tired of paying monthly subscription fees for Hulu, Netflix, or Amazon Prime Video, then Tubi TV is a free alternative that you must check out. Similar to Crackle and Pluto TV, Tubi is absolutely free and is supported by ads. Thanks to an array of licensed TV shows and movies, Tubi allows you to stream content legally without spending a dime. But since it’s a free streaming service, there are certain pitfalls, and not everyone will find the content on the platform compelling. It’s more like a hit-or-miss effort whose results are entirely subjective.
What is Tubi TV?
Tubi TV is a free streaming service where users can watch movies, TV series, and other forms of on-demand content. Instead of charging its users for the content, the platform resorts to video ads, which helps it to generate revenue. Tubi, as a creator, doesn’t have any original content and thus relies on thousands of hours of on-demand content to keep the service functioning.
Tubi’s USP is its content library and 100% legal streaming for an unlimited amount of time. You don’t have to give your credit card details or subscribe to this service. Simply choose the content you’d like to watch and start streaming right away. Before streaming on this service, think of it as a regular TV channel because it does have a few ads. But if we were to compare it with Crackle or Pluto TV, it’s way better.
Tubi TV has something from everybody. Whether you’re into comedy or drama, kids, or classic titles, you’ll find it all on Tubi. There are Korean dramas, British Series, and even anime content on the platform. What’s even better is that the developer updates the app every month, and thus, you get access to thousands of new titles and content every week. Another interesting aspect of Tubi is that you get to watch the content in HD quality. The shows on the network are handpicked, and thus, you only get the best shows that are critically acclaimed and have received prominent awards over the years.
What should you expect from the Tubi TV App?
Tubi TV in itself is a complete package. You get to watch the biggest stars of Hollywood and all the popular titles for no cost at all. The platform provides you with content gems such as Wendy Williams, and Paternity Court. New movies are added on a weekly basis, and you can browse the featured section to stay up-to-date with the fresh content.
Tubi might be an independent streaming network, but it does provide excellent compatibility. You can watch all the content that you find on the app on your big screen via Airplay or Chromecast. Apart from these devices, you can watch content on your Android devices, Xbox gaming consoles, Xfinity, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4, Amazon Fire TV, Samsung TV, among many others.
With Tubi, you can continue watching your videos from any device without any discrepancies. If you sign-up on the platform – you can continue where you left off. So, if you pause ‘Donnie Darko’ on your TV at the 12-minute mark, you’ll be able to resume the stream from the same time. I love this feature because most of the time when I’m binge-watching, I don’t even remember the episode when I pause them and get to work. Thus, for streamers like me, this is quite a big deal.
As I mentioned earlier, there’s something for everybody on Tubi TV. The variety offered on this platform can be understood via its genres. You can choose content from a wide range of genres, such as Drama, Comedy, Action, Horror, Anime, Korean, Spanish, Hollywood, and much more. As per a reputed streaming site, the genre-based category is, in fact, the best feature on this app. Why? Because the diversification isn’t just based on genres and has been sorted via languages too.
Tubi TV doesn’t expect commitment. You don’t have to pay a monthly fee or enter into a yearly contract. Just download the app and start streaming for free. Sign-up isn’t mandatory. However, if you want to make the most of premium features such as content tracking, you can sign-up, but that’s upon you. Signing up on the platform will only enhance your streaming experience.
Tubi TV App Information
Tubi TV App is quite light at 22 MB. Even if you have a device that lacks space, I’m sure that downloading and streaming on this platform wouldn’t be much of a problem. Tubi TV was last updated on April 5, 2020, and still manages to work fine with Android devices with OS above 4.0. As for popularity, the app has been installed more than 50 million times, which makes it one of the largest independent streaming services across the US.
How to access Tubi TV?
You can access Tubi TV from any device. It supports over 25 different devices, including Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV. Other than the app on Android and iOS platforms, Tubi has native apps for most of these compatible devices. You can access the app directly once you download it. However, if you want to watch R-rated content or a title with Mature rating, you’d have to sign-up and verify your age.
Tubi’s user interface is quite seamless. Accessing all the pages on the app is easy, thanks to well-designed navigation buttons and menus. The homepage on the app sports a clean design and a myriad of categories allowing users to find the content in no time. In terms of colors, it doesn’t follow a dark black theme but rather a dark gray one. The colorful thumbnails make the app livelier with the Chromecast button on the top right for direct casting. Overall, there’s nothing extravagant in terms of design. It’s just the basics done right.
Tubi TV does have a massive catalog of on-demand content. You’ll find blockbuster movies and TV shows on the platform. Sure, the overall catalog seems a bit dated, but you certainly can’t expect much from a free streaming service.
Tubi TV sources content from major studios such as Lionsgate, Paramount, and MGM. Thus, it’s not a shocker that it does have many killer titles featuring stars such as Leonardo Di Caprio, Michael Fox, Jennifer Lopez, and Meg Ryan. As for titles, you can find iconic movies such as ‘Kill Bill,’ ‘The Aviator’, ‘Teen Wolf,’ ‘The Passion of the Christ,’ ‘Maid in Manhattan,’ ‘Memento,’ ‘All Dogs go to Heaven’ and ‘Donnie Darko.’
Since Tubi helps users access the A&E library, you will find a gargantuan amount of reality TV series. If you’re not into reality TV, the TV Shows category might come off as lackluster to you. A few of the popular titles that I found on the platform were as follows: ‘Major Dad,’ ‘Punky Brewster,’ ‘Duck Dynasty,’ ‘Hell’s Kitchen,’ ‘American Pickers,’ ‘Storage Wars,’ ‘The Apprentice,’ ‘Unsolved Mysteries,’ ‘Alf,’ and ‘The Beverly Hillbillies.’
As of this moment, Tubi TV doesn’t have any originals. So, if you’re into the Originals series, there’s not much for you on this website.
I loved streaming content on Tubi TV more than Pluto TV and Crackle. The ad-video ratio is way better than those two platforms. I streamed an action movie on the platform, and much to my pleasure, the first ad appeared around the 35-minute mark. Compare that to those other services; you don’t even have to watch 5% of the ads. Even the ads that appear are short and don’t affect the streaming much.
Suggestions I have for Tubi TV
I absolutely love this platform. It’s been designed so well, and I’m sure the user experience has been kept in mind. However, it’d be great if the developers increase the content depth and add some top and trending shows to the network.
While you might not get the latest content on Tubi, you can still enjoy the content in the best possible quality without paying any money. Though it lacks original content, you get access to more than a thousand hours of content from popular studios featuring top stars. I don’t think that’s unfair for a free streaming service that’s legal.
