YuppTV is South Asia’s Crackle. If you live in south-east Asia, I’m sure you have heard about the name. It is one of the most popular app-based streaming services in Asia preferred by Indian audiences and viewers who enjoy Bollywood and other forms of cinema and programming.
As of now, the app focuses on satiating the content desires of its audience spread across various countries such as the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the Caribbean. In recent times, it has also entered new markets such as South Africa, Europe, Japan, Fiji, Malaysia, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa.
What is YuppTV?
YuppTV is an Atlanta-based OTT streaming service provider that caters to the NRI audience all across the globe. The emergence of YuppTV has been a result of expensive Indian channels in the western hemisphere. Indian audiences that want to watch local movies, news and TV shows are required to pay hundreds of dollars. Thus, to capitalize on the shortcomings, YuppTV began its service of providing Live TV, On-demand movies, and Catch-up content to its audience.
YuppTV has been able to establish itself as a global streaming giant. With over 5 million visitors per month and a record peak of 20M visitors in a single month last year, it’s fair to say that the platform does attract a lot of eyeballs. In terms of app popularity alone, there have been more than 2 million YuppTV downloaded on Samsung TVs alone. It has a strong community of 450,000 on Facebook. It has 100,000 apps downloads on LG TV and nearly 1.5M downloads on Nokia devices from the outdated OVI store.
What should you expect from YuppTV?
YuppTV has over 200+ channels from South Asia and is working towards attracting a global audience. Each day, about 5000 hours of content are added to the platform. You’ll find blockbuster Bollywood movies on the platform along with Live TV, Catch up TV, and other TV Shows. Each paid subscriber on the platform consumes 5 hours of content per day on this platform.
YuppTV offers its own set-top box and provides more than ten days of Catch-up content. The platform is available in more than 13 languages and works on a streaming basis. You don’t need a traditional or satellite TV connection. Moreover, the YuppTV app has its own stream player with 24×7 customer support.
YuppTV quite easily meets the global streaming standards set by Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Thanks to its cutting-edge technology and multiple solutions, you can consume content in a variety of ways. The platform supports more than 25 devices, including PCs, laptops, mobile phones, iOS, Android, Windows, MAC, Chromecast, Fire TV, Roku, gaming consoles such as PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
While many other streaming services lure their audiences via a free trial, YuppTV doesn’t ask for the viewers to subscribe to their network. You don’t have to commit 12-months or 24-months to the platform. Just create an account without spending a single dollar and watch any content that you want. Unsubscribing from the platform is super easy even after you opt for a premium membership.
While many would believe that Hotstar and Prime Video are India’s most popular platforms, it’s actually YuppTV that rakes in incredible numbers. If you were to judge a platform by its engagement numbers, with 5 hours of daily content consumption on average, YuppTV smashes all the competition by miles.

To access YuppTV, all you need is to download the app on your mobile device; It is available on Android as well as iOS devices. You can browse the platform and even stream content without signing up on the platform. However, if you want a comprehensive experience, you’ll need to go premium.
I love the design approach to the YuppTV app. The dark gray color with white and orange accents looks really cool. There’s a drop-down menu towards the left, a search bar, mini-theatre, and Chromecast option on the right. The mobile version is an optimized version of what you see on websites, which is a similar approach to that of Crackle.
You’ll find various headings under the main app header such as ‘Home,’ ‘Live TV,’ ‘Catch up TV,’ ‘Mini-Theatre,’ Movies, TV Shows, to name a few. Using the drop-down menu, you can even register or log-on to the services or browse through the categories if you want to access a particular page.
The tiny banners optimized for mobile look great. There are quite a few slides under every tab. If you’re browsing on the homepage, you’ll find various categories such as ‘Recently Watched,’ ‘Trending Live,’ ‘Popular Content,’ ‘Movies on-demand,’ TV shows-on demand.’ As you switch tabs, you’ll find content related to that particular category. Apart from the content layout, you’ll even find schedules on the streaming page to stay up-to-date about what’s airing on particular channels.
The YuppTV app has a massive content library reminiscent of the website. There are more than 200+ channels packed with quality content. There are movies from a wide range of genres, including Comedy, Sports, News, Romance, Spiritual, Crime, Drama, Entertainment, and Music. Even from the perspective of the Indian audience, the app primarily caters to regional demographics. It doesn’t capture the needs of the urban population, and thus it lacks popular Hollywood channels that are beloved by the majority of the streamers residing in the urban areas.
I downloaded YuppTV on my Mi Note 7 Pro, and I enjoyed watching CID on the platform. Many of my friends had suggested watching that iconic show, which was running actively for the past 20 years. While the show itself felt like my friends pulled a prank on me, the streaming quality was no joke. I was able to watch an entire episode with subtitles, and there were no streaming issues at all.
Suggestions I have for YuppTV
YuppTV is an amazing platform in terms of design and interface. However, I feel that it’d be great if they add 40-50 popular international shows. Also, it wouldn’t hurt the creators if they decided to roll out their originals, similar to TVF and Hotstar themselves.
YuppTV is a cool streaming platform for streaming content in various Indian languages. However, it doesn’t cater to a worldwide audience, and the content is pretty much limited to a specific set of audience i.e., Indians living abroad.
