Over the last few years, the streaming revolution has been in full swing. It seems as if there are new TV and movie streaming sites coming out nearly every single day. Ever since the streaming giants like Netflix, Hulu, and Prime Video proved that streaming was officially the new mainstream way to consume media, everybody and their uncle have jumped on board with as movie streaming site of their own, hoping to get a slice of those sweet, sweet movie streaming profits.
As is to be expected, of course, not all of the newer movie streaming sites are created equal. In fact, in order to find a gem, you may have to dig through a lot of trash. Well, you don’t have to … that’s what I am here for. I spend my days testing, evaluating, and analyzing every movie streaming site that I can find; I only review the best movie streaming sites, the ones that are worth knowing about.
And that is precisely why I am writing to you today. I have, indeed, found another site that deserves to be listed alongside the best movie streaming sites of all time. Ladies and gentlemen … allow me to introduce you to Streamz.
Sometimes referred to as the Flemish Netflix, Streamz is still a young streaming service, having not even been on the market for a full year yet. That being said, it has made quite a splash in the 5 months or so that it has been streaming. I mean, to already be dubbed the Netflix of Belgium, this service must be top-notch, right?
From what I can tell, Streamz definitely deserves this distinction. The site offers a large library filled with a versatile blend of movies and TV series. Streamz offers both critically acclaimed international titles from the US, as well as plenty of your favorite Flemish and Dutch movies and shows. Combine this with an incredibly user-friendly and intuitive interface, plenty of awesome user features, cross-platform compatibility (mobile, desktop, and smart TVs), and an ads-free premium movie streaming experience, and you have the recipe for one of the best movie streaming sites on the web today.
Streamz took over for Play, which was owned and operated entirely by Telenet. As you likely already know, Telenet can be frustratingly monolithic in Belgium. Which is why it is always nice to see competition rise up and challenge their services.
Although Streamz has become known as the Flemish Netflix rather easily, they weren’t the first to coin this term. In fact, DPG Media was the first to suggest that there be a Flemish Netflix.
They also have a free video on demand service of their own, known as VTM Go (named after their huge cable TV channel, VTM, of course. Fearing that continued production of Flemish original series might be unfeasible, they backed away from taking on the task of becoming the Flemish Netflix themselves, which made room for Streamz to rise up and take this crown. VTM agreed to contribute to Streamz, offering their licensed content to the service.
In the beginning of 2020, Telenet decided that they would also get on board with Streamz. This was a huge partnership, seeing as Telenet brought to the table the channels VIER, ZES, VIJF, as well as Woestijnvis, the production house. As if that wasn’t enough, Telenet’s own movie streaming service, Play More, would also bring syndicated productions from HBO – a huge win for the Streamz content library, for sure.
Once the project received its official stamp of approval from the European Commission, Streams announced its name. This occurred on August 12, 2020. Shortly thereafter, the next major piece of the Streamz puzzle fell into place.
The VRT made an official announcement on September 3, 2020 that they were also to participate with Streamz. Many critics of Streamz had assumed that, without access to the VRT’s support and catalog of older programs, Streamz would not have been a viable streaming platform. It has been reported that the VRT came under immense pressure from the Flemish government to cooperate. They did so gladly; however, the VRT did indicate that its primary concern would be its own streaming platform, VRT NU.
These weren’t the only major historical landmarks for Streamz. The best streaming site in Belgium (arguably) also struck some huge deals with international studios, such as Paramount, HBO, Sony, CBS, and Universal. The potential for content on Streamz is seemingly boundless thanks to this massive coalition of Flemish and international entertainment powerhouses.
For Telenet Play More subscribers, the start of Streamz on September 14, 2020 meant that their subscriptions would be converted. This was huge for Streamz, because it meant that the fledgling streaming service would not have to start from scratch. Instead, Streamz automatically took on a whopping head start of more than 431,000 built-in subscribers who’d been transferred over from Play More.
Streamz offers a site and app design that is every bit as sleek, intuitive, and user-friendly as its most popular competitors. This site is every bit as responsive, dynamic, and easy to use as it gets. In fact, the nickname “Flemish Netflix” is definitely also echoed in the site’s design and layout.
This site will look instantly familiar to anybody who has used a major movie streaming service before. It offers nothing revolutionary in that regard. Nevertheless, the design is effective – a series of side-scrolling, horizontal menus separated by category. It’s familiar, sure, but it works well.
Content and Features
As we have already discussed a bit, Streamz is quite possible the best movie streaming site in all of Belgium – at least if we are talking about the quality (and quantity) of its content. There are tons of top-tier movies and TV series available to stream on Streamz. Whether you can’t get enough of those American dramas or you just want a good laugh from a good, old-fashioned Flemish comedy, Streamz has got you covered.
One of the standouts regarding content that you can expect from Streamz is its access to an impressive list of HBO original series and films. Enjoy HBO favorites, such as Euphoria, Batwoman, Game of Thrones, Sharp Objects, Watchmen, the Undoing, and His Dark Materials. It maty not be access to the entire HBO catalog, but it could be just enough to keep you from splurging on an HBO Max membership (for now).
Plus, Streamz grants its members access to plenty of Streamz original movies and series and an array of content that was previously exclusively available on Telenet’s Play More. If all this wasn’t enough, by upgrading your account to Streamz Plus, you will also be able to access recently released blockbuster smash hits – a rarity for any movie streaming site – but we will cover that in more depth when we discuss pricings and plans.
As far as features go, Streamz offers the full premium streaming experience. Members can download movies and TV shows to your phone or tablet in order to watch them later without an internet or mobile connection. And members can create up to 5 personalized profiles, as well as enjoy 5 simultaneous streams. Anything Netflix can do, Flemish Netflix can, too.
Mobile and Desktop Experience
One thing that I love about Streamz is the level of cross-platform compatibility that comes with it. Not only does this movie streaming site offer an excellent desktop and mobile web browser experience, but there are also equally exquisite apps for just about every device there is. Whether you are streaming movies on your iOS or Android mobile device, ChromeCast, Apple TV, Android TV, LG Smart TV, Samsung Smart TV, or Telenet TV, Streamz offers a user-friendly and intuitive app.
My only gripe is that there is no Roku app available for Streamz. As an owner of a Roku smart TV, this is a huge bummer! Still, though, I know that this is a relatively minor complaint amid so much praise.
Pricings and Plans
Streamz offers 2 tiers for its premium movie streaming subscription model. Fortunately, neither of these tiers is ad-supported. You can enjoy nearly everything that Streamz has to offer, even if you go with the more affordable option. Here are the 2 choices:
-Streamz: €11.95/month, or €119.45/year (this will save you 2 months of payments)
-Streamz Plus: €19.95/month, or €199.45/year (again, 2 months off)
So, you are probably wondering, what is the big difference between Streamz and Streamz Plus? Well, the answer might be slightly underwhelming. With Streamz Plus, you are given access to additional content, including recent must-see blockbusters. Maybe this is worth paying nearly twice as much for your monthly membership (especially if you find yourself renting new movies or going to the theater frequently). Personally, though, I was expecting there to be some more features than that for such a price difference.
