With so many movie and TV streaming sites out there to choose from, how on earth are you supposed to know which ones are worth your time and/or money and which ones should be skipped over? I know all too well how much variation there can be from one streaming site to the next. Some are beautifully designed, easy to use, dependable, stream content in the highest possible quality, and have enormous libraries jam-packed with every title you could possibly think of. Others, on the other hand, can be ad-ridden, cluttered, clunky, hard to navigate, unreliable, stream grainy or amateur copies of movies and shows, and could pose a threat to your internet security. This is why it is no minor concern, trying to discern the best streaming sites from the subpar. There are many factors that one needs to take into account before making this decision.
Which is precisely why I have dedicated my time to creating StreamingSites. Here, you won’t have to wonder whether a site is worth your time or money. Because I have handpicked only the best of the best streaming sites that the internet has to offer. Sure, even though my list of reviews only features the sites worth looking into, though, that doesn’t mean that within my list of the top streaming sites there is no variation.
Even still, even when you are dealing with the top sites only, there is still going to be some variance in quality. There are the worst of the best, and there are the best of the best. My reviews have weeded out all of the sites not even worth naming, but you still might find that some of the sites that I have listed are much better for whatever it is that you happen to be looking for in a streaming site.
Which is the first thing that you will have to figure out before you can come to a conclusion on which free movie streaming site is going to be the best. The question is not, ‘which free streaming site is the best?’ but, instead, ‘which free streaming site is the best for you?’ That last part is crucial. We all have different preferences.
We all want to stream different kinds of movies and shows. We all like different styles and layouts when it comes to web design. By reading through my comprehensive list of reviews of the greatest free streaming sites, you will be able to come to a better understanding of A.) what it is that you value in a free streaming site, and B.) which site best ticks those boxes.
That does not mean, however, that there aren’t some general things to be looking for as you conduct your search. Chances are, you will want a free movie streaming site that offers up the highest number of titles, right? Because, well, the more movies and shows that a free streaming site has to offer, the more likely you are going to be when it comes to finding the specific titles that you are looking for at a given time. The logic checks out, right?
Secondly, when it comes to free streaming sites, the quality of the site itself is an equally important element to take into account. Free streaming sites, unfortunately, do not have the best reputation when it comes to providing intuitive, user-friendly, aesthetically pleasing web design. Far too often, free streaming sites, for example, are brimming with annoying advertisements, often embedded in the screen so that each click opens a popup or a new tab. This can be more than just frustrating; it can be dangerous as well. There are lots of people out there who are afraid to use free movie and TV streaming sites because of horror stories that they have heard of people getting viruses, trackers, and trojans from such ads.
Let me just say, first and foremost, that I would never knowingly include a site in my list that contains viruses or other malware. To that effect, though, I also have a list on StreamingSites of some great VPNs, which are invaluable when it comes to protecting your identity and your computer’s well-being while you browse free streaming sites (or any sites for that matter, because, in truth, you are never 100% safe on the internet without the proper tools).
In addition to a VPN, I would also advise everyone to go and find an ad-blocker (check out the Useful Software section of this site), as well as solid antivirus software. With these three things (VPN, ad blocker, and antivirus), you will be as close to impenetrable as possible while browsing the web, no matter what you are doing.
Okay, now that we have gotten all of that out of the way, it is time to shift gears and discuss today’s free movie and TV streaming site: Prime Wire. Anyone who is old enough to remember some of the earlier days of P2P file-sharing might find an allusion embedded in this site’s name … does Lime Wire ring a bell to anyone? Oh, those were simpler times.
However, as far as I know, there is no direct relation between Prime Wire and Lime Wire outside of the shared suffix of the names. That being said, Prime Wire does something similar to what Lime Wire did – and that provides you with tons of free movies and TV shows with ease and convenience. In fact, Prime Wire is actually much more convenient than Lime Wire, in that nothing needs to be downloaded. Simply click on a movie or TV show and start streaming its content immediately.
Prime Wire may be a little bit strange to get used to, design-wise. At least at first. The orientation of the home page, for instance, feels inverted. The member login and sign up box is awkwardly placed on the right-hand side of the page (when it feels much more at home being left-justified). This is also where you will find a few quick links: latest comments, top comments, TV schedule, and some other informational tidbits on how to make the most of the site. I love that Prime Wire is offering a guide, however, in order to help first-timers and novice free movie streamers to find their way around this site.
Another design qualm that I have with Prime Wire is the way in which the movies are listed. When you click into a title, you will find that movie or show’s information at the top of the page, along with a list of links to the hosted files. Word to the wise: skip the top result, as it is always going to be an ad that will bring you to another page that leads you to believe that it has the movie or show if you sign up, although it, in fact, does not.
Why don’t I like this layout? Well, mostly just because it is more cumbersome than it needs to be. I have seen the free movie and TV streaming sites execute this in a much more streamlined and user-friendly manner. Some sites, for example, provide one media player box and allow each link to automatically be cycled through without having to scroll through a lengthy list. Others take a sort of Google Images approach and give you a list of search results with thumbnails, which also feels more natural and less clunky.
Maybe this list layout doesn’t bug you as much as it bugs me. Personally, I would love to see Prime Wire undergo a serious makeover.
Prime Wire does have an impressive library of movies and shows to choose from. Just about any title that comes to mind will probably be available here. However, when it comes to streaming quality, you’ll find that it is pretty hit or miss. Many of the files do not stream in HD, in other words, and some only go so high up as 240p, which makes for a less than a cinematic experience.
Mobile and Desktop Experience
There is no Prime Wire app, which is disappointing (if understandable). However, their mobile site seems to work just fine. It is pretty ad-heavy, but, hey, that comes with the territory, unfortunately, with these kinds of sites.
Suggestions that I have for Prime Wire
I would like to see Prime Wire redesign their whole site. A more experiential, aesthetically pleasing, and streamlined site design is in order. Come on, guys, it’s 2020, why are you designing your sites like it’s 2005? Also, of course, higher-quality links would definitely help. Nobody wants to stream a movie in 240p.
