Lord knows that there are more than enough streaming sites out there for us to choose from. In fact, when it comes time to figure out which streaming site or app we should choose for finding the latest, highest-quality streams of the best movies and TV shows, it can be downright overwhelming to pick from the massive (and ever-growing) list. Plus, what kind of streaming site will be best for your needs? Would you be better off with a premium streaming service, such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, etc.? Or maybe a free streaming app is what you require? How about a good, old-fashioned video streaming site? Too many decisions …

Which is one of the main reasons that I started reviewing sites on StreamingSites. I began to notice just how many different streaming sites are out there. But, even more remarkably, I started to notice just how many godawful streaming sites there were. Phew, if you’ve seen some of the sites that I have, you would be beside yourself.

That being said, there are plenty of high-quality streaming sites, of course, that allow you to stream HD content on-demand, no questions asked, no limitations. Sure, they are few and far between, but my hope is that I am able to help you find the perfect streaming site for precisely what you’re looking for. So, that’s why I have created these long lists of streaming site reviews … I hope that you find them helpful.

What, then, goes into the decision-making process? When it comes time to locate the best streaming site for you, what questions do you need to ask yourself? Well, in my opinion, the best way to start out this inquiry comes from asking yourself whether you want a premium streaming service for which you will have to pay a fee per month, or if you want to find a dependable, high-quality, and, most importantly, safe free streaming site? From there, of course, we can begin to narrow down the list.

Maybe you are not in a position to commit to a premium streaming site right now. And that’s perfectly fine. Or, maybe, like me, you find that sometimes you prefer a free streaming site to a premium one, if only because there are fewer limitations in terms of the variety of content available. Premium streaming sites, remember, all have their own individual contracts and syndication agreements with popular networks and film studios. Each one also usually puts out its own brand of original content. But if you don’t want to be limited to one brand or another, a free streaming site can be the way to go.

Why the emphasis on finding a “safe” free streaming site, you ask? Well, because, as you may already be aware, free streaming sites do not tend to have the best reputations for providing virus-free, trojan-free content. It is true that they sometimes contain malware and trackers. Have no fear, though, if you are clicking onto any site from one of my lists … I would never knowingly link to a malicious free streaming site. I only give you the best of the best.

If you are concerned, however, still, there are a few precautionary measures that you can take before venturing into the world of free streaming sites. In fact, even if you don’t plan on heading to many of these sites, it would still likely behoove you to consider bulking your computer’s defenses up.

First thing’s first, head over to my list of the best VPNs and get yourself a solid Virtual Private Network. This will, baseline, help to ensure that you are 100% anonymous and undetectable when you are on the internet. A VPN will scramble your IP address, making it so that nobody – not a hacker, your ISP, or even the government – will be able to see what you are up to on the internet. It should be your first line of defense.

Next, head over to the Useful Software section of StreamingSites and check out an Ad Blocker. This will, of course, limit the ads that show up while you visit sites (which is where the malware is most frequently hiding). If the ad is blocked, then, well, there is a much lower chance of your computer becoming infected. Just in case, though, you’ll always also want to have up-to-date antivirus software, as your final wall of defense. This way, on the off chance that anything does leak through, your antivirus program will zap it before it does any harm.

Okay, now that you are properly protected against the digital elements, let’s go check out one of the most popular free streaming sites to ever hit the web. That’s right, today we will be taking a look at the infamous Put Locker.

History

Confounding name aside, Put Locker is easily one of the most notorious free streaming sites in existence. And it is also one of the longest-running. Put Locker started out in the UK in January of 2012, originally under the comparatively very basic URL of putlocker.com. The website initially received around 800,000 visitors per day, marking its meteoric rise to success. Then, once the site Mega Upload was shut down for copyright infringement, Put Locker only skyrocketed even further up in popularity. With the demise of Mega Upload, Put locker began drawing in more than 1.6 million unique visitors every day.

Trouble came for Put Locker, though, in March of 2012. The Vice President of Paramount Pictures, Alfred Perry, identified Put Locker as one of the “top 4 rogue cyberlocker services,” and the website’s URL, in a preemptive measure, was changed to Putlocker.bz, making it slightly harder to find again. The Police Intellectual Property Crime Unite of the UK, however, proceeded to seize that domain in June of 2014, which resulted in Put Locker relocated once again … this time to Putlocker.is, located in Iceland.

Since then, there has been an ongoing and active hunt to take Put Locker down. But this site is relentless, having changed domain names more times than I can recount here. In addition to the UK, Vietnam, Australia, and the United States have all tried to take down Put Locker for good, on grounds of copyright infringement. However, none have been successful. Put Locker lives on.

Design

One thing that hasn’t changed much about Put Locker, though, is its design. They have retained their iconic green and gray theme since day one. What has also remained the same about the site’s design is its intuitive and easy-to-use layout. Just browse by a few simple sections: Featured Movies, Latest Movies, and Latest TV Shows. It’s got to be one of the simplest and cleanest free streaming sites out there.

Content

As I just touched upon in describing the site’s sections, Put Locker contains an enormous library of full-length movies and TV series. Even the newest, still in theaters titles are sometimes available on this site for free (though the quality will vary). In addition to featuring movies and shows, there is even a section in which users can make requests for uploads, which means, in theory, that you’ll never have to go without a title that you wish to see.

Mobile and Desktop Experience

The site seems to work just as well on a mobile device as it does on the computer. In fact, the layout and design are no different at all, which is a rare occurrence, especially when it comes to free streaming sites. Browse just as easily on your phone or tablet as you do on your laptop. The only downside is, for obvious reasons, there is n Put Locker app. I don’t count this against Put Locker, though, given the fact that they are constantly being hunted by some of the most powerful states in the world, but it still felt worth pointing out.

Suggestions that I have for Put Locker

Honestly, I do not have any suggestions for this site. They are the OGs of the free streaming site world, and they opened the doors for so many sites like them. Obviously, I am not a huge fan of the number of ads that they employ, but you have to pay for the servers, and constant domain moves somehow, right? That being said, I bet people would donate if they asked instead. At any rate, the majority of the ads are easily blocked with an ad-blocker, so it’s not a huge deal.
